My Daughter's School: A Tale of Exorbitant Fees and Unnecessary Expenses

I recently received a notification from my daughter's school informing me that they would be selling a CD containing last year's school photos for a whopping ₹250. Yes, you read that right – ₹250 for a single CD. In today's digital age, where storage is abundant and data sharing is effortless, does a CD really cost ₹250?

Is ₹250 insignificant in today's economy? Or is this just another example of inflation driving up the price of even the most basic items? Consider that if there are 100 students in the school, this translates to a revenue of ₹25,000 for the school. Everyone knows that a CD can be purchased from the market for as little as ₹2 to ₹20. Parents are more than willing to spend ₹200 to ₹500 for their children's photos, and school authorities are well aware of this sentiment. And so, they exploit this opportunity to make a quick profit.

Ahmedabad is witnessing a mushrooming of schools in every corner of the city. And with this surge comes an avalanche of fees – admission fees, tuition fees, form fees, summer camp fees, snack fees, transportation fees, uniform fees, notebook fees, and the list goes on. For a two-year-old child, the cost of attending a basic kindergarten for a year can range from ₹15,000 to ₹20,000.

I was particularly surprised when I saw my daughter's notebook. She had already filled up most of it, but there was still some space left. So, she will continue using the same notebook next year as well. And guess what? The price of her school boots is ₹1,100!

Truly, this education business is a lucrative one, with high profits and a steady stream of customers.

I invite you all to share your experiences and thoughts on this matter.
